PÉNÉLOPE NATHASHA PEMBA MAVOUNGOU – L’histoire qu’elle porte me captive
Pénélope Mavoungou dans la vie de tous les jours, elle a choisi le pseudonyme de Nathasha Pemba pour la littérature. Elle est philosophe (PhD) de formation et a fait Sciences-Po (DEA IEP de Toulouse). Sa thèse de philosophie porte sur la question de l’égalité dans la démocratie, selon la vision d’Alexis de Tocqueville. Elle s’intéresse principalement à la philosophie politique et sociale et aux politiques sociales de sécurité et de prévention de la délinquance, à l’éthique et à la morale. Les questions sur lesquelles elle travaille actuellement sont : La démocratie, l’égalité et la liberté, le féminisme en contexte africain et québécois, la médiation sociale, l’hospitalité… et aussi la philosophie africaine. Elle est originaire de Pointe-Noire (Congo-Brazzaville). Elle est membre associée de l’Institut d’Éthique Appliquée de l’Université Laval de Québec… C’est la passionnée de littérature qui a bien voulu répondre à nos questions.
Amoureuse de la nouvelle?
C’est le premier genre que j’ai aimé après le roman. J’écris beaucoup de nouvelles. Sans exagérer, je pense qu’en dehors de celles publiées, j’en dispose environ d’une quarantaine sur mon ordinateur. Je n’aime pas les histoires qui ont une fin… c’est curieux. L’amour, l’amitié… j’ai toujours pensé qu’on pourrait leur donner assez de temps pour vivre et survivre au gré des vagues… la dimension chute de la nouvelle me captive particulièrement.
Les passants de Québec, votre deuxième recueil de nouvelles se passe exclusivement dans la ville de Québec, un peu comme Paris de Hemingway dans Paris est une fête?
Oui. Les Passants de Québec se passent à Québec, comme j’aurais aussi pu écrire «Le café de la Rue Saint Rome» pour parler de Toulouse une ville que je porte beaucoup dans mon coeur. Mais j’ai commencé par Québec. Je suis solitaire (sans être asociale) et je m’attache beaucoup à l’histoire, aux lieux et aux personnes, aux réactions et aux silences. Écrire sur Québec traduit tout l’amour que je porte pour cette ville interculturelle et très traditionnelle bien entendu. Si tu veux entendre l’accent québécois, c’est quand même à Québec… et toute l’histoire qu’elle porte me captive beaucoup. Ses lieux comme les Plaines d’Abraham ou encore le quartier Petit Champlain… On a envie d’y rester. Mais c’est d’abord la Rue Saint-Jean qui a fait fondre mon coeur. Oui… si Paris est une fête, on pourrait dire que Québec est une hospitalité.
Quels sont les secrets qui se cachent dans vos nouvelles ?
La première nouvelle parle de Québec, de la rue Saint-Jean et de sa diversité, des relations familiales, des tabous religieux, du féminisme… et de l’Amour. La deuxième nouvelle parle de l’hospitalité du peuple québécois, mais aussi de l’accueil d’une maladie incurable, des migrants… de la vie. Et de l’Amour. Dans Exotismes, la troisième nouvelle, je parle de la difficulté d’être migrant et du mirage que peut représenter, à un certain moment «la résidence permanente». Je mets en scène plusieurs réalités: la colocation, les cohabitations en temps de conflits… le vivre ensemble (hauts et bas). Dans les autres nouvelles, je parle du racisme, du conflit mère fille ou encore de la discrimination envers les personnes différentes de nous. L’une des nouvelles est un hommage à Dany Laferrière que j’aime beaucoup et dont j’apprécie énormément les écrits. Voilà… Comme dans le recueil Polygamiques, je suis habitée par la question du Vivre-ensemble en situation de diversité.
Vous avez participé à plusieurs créations littéraires : anthologies, dictionnaires. Que vous apporte le travail d’équipe ?
La collaboration avec les autres est ce qu’il y a de meilleur parce que dans les turpitudes de notre travail, nous nous rencontrons souvent avec nous-mêmes. L’altérité me paraît le lieu idéal pour la découverte de notre Moi tantôt Centré tantôt Décentré. Il faut beaucoup de personnalité et de légèreté (dans le sens de Kundera) pour clore un projet collectif. Il faut être à l’école de Pénélope (Mythologie grecque). Je travaille actuellement sur un Collectif avec quelques amis philosophes d’Afrique. Nous sommes presque à la fin et c’est un projet intéressant parce que l’on se rend compte que l’espace francophone en philosophie notamment a besoin des cadres de réflexions et d’élaboration d’idées.
Un roman dans vos tiroirs?
J’ai écrit un roman de plus de 200 pages. Je l’ai commencé depuis 2013. Une maison d’édition (rires) pourrait le publier. On attend. J’y traite de la question de l’esclavage… et de bien d’autres encore. Et de l’Amour.

J’en ai beaucoup. La Providence pourvoira.
