Nancy Côté est la charmante dame, maman de deux enfants Rosalie Larocque et Magalie Larocque, qui accompagne l’écrivain et acteur Ghislain Larocque dans sa vie de tous les jours. Elle est également belle-maman de deux autres enfants Anthony Larocque et Ashley Larocque. Elle a étudié en technique de travail social pendant deux ans à La Cité collégiale et travaille présentement en tant qu’éducatrice dans une halte garderie : Le centre d’activité préscolaire et familiale, depuis 10 ans.
Vous êtes la compagne de l’écrivain Ghislain Larocque, écrire demande un maximum de solitude, comment réagissez-vous quand l’écrivain a besoin de son temps pour écrire ?
Cela fait treize ans que je suis avec Ghislain Larocque, j’ai appris à le connaître et je sais que lorsqu’il va dans la salle de bain c’est pour lire, écrire ses livres et se laver évidement; qu’il a besoin d’être tranquille. (Ce qui peut être difficile avec des enfants) Je sais qu’écrire demande de la concentration donc je lui laisse son temps.
Cela crée-t-il un déséquilibre dans le temps alloué à la famille?
Non, car nous avons su trouver un »horaire » : il travaille sur ses livres la plupart du temps soit quand je travaille, quand je suis couchée soit dans la chambre d’hôtel lorsqu’il part une fin de semaine au salon du livre. C’est certain que nous avons des fins de semaine sans papa, mais il y a aussi des fois qu’on y va avec lui.
Comment vivez-vous l’organisation d’un salon de livre qu’il préside?
Je l’encourage beaucoup et je l’aide. Nous sommes différents, nous avons chacun nos passions. Lui, les livres et la télévision, moi les enfants.
Comment votre présence à ses côtés le rassure-t-il?
Le fait que je ne le décourage pas; que je l’encourage à faire ce qu’il aime.
Outre l’écriture, il fait aussi du cinéma : l’accompagnez-vous dans ses tournages ?
Dans ses tournages, non je ne l’accompagne pas, cela n’est pas dans mon domaine ni ma passion. Mais notre fille Magalie l’accompagne de temps en temps. Elle a même fait quelques tournages avec lui.
L’écriture, le cinéma, cela vous donne-t-il envie de faire du cinéma et d’écrire à votre tour ?
Non, je suis une personne plutôt discrète, réservée et qui n’aime pas avoir trop d’attention autour d’elle. Tout le contraire de Ghislain.
Les enfants s’intéressent-ils à ce que fait leur père?
Rosalie qui a vingt deux mois est très artistique. Elle aime danser et chanter en plus de faire la comique. Elle est très expressive avec son visage, sûrement une future vedette. Nous essayons de lui trouver des tournages.
Magalie a douze ans, s’intéresse beaucoup aux tournages. Elle en a fait quelques uns avec son papa et elle en redemande. Plus tard, elle aimerait en faire plus. Elle a aussi un très grand côté artistique au niveau de la danse et du chant.
Anthony qui a dix-huit ans n’est nullement intéressé, mais aime bien voir son papa à la télévision. Ashley, vingt-et-un ans, ne nous en parle pas vraiment, mais passe son temps à la maison à réaliser des vidéos d’elle-même : elle assure la mise en scène, la production et le jeu de comédienne avec plusieurs personnages joués par elle-même. S’agissant des livres, aucun enfant n’est dans l’écriture mais, ils ont tous une copie des livres de papa. La plus grande, Ashley est plus à l’aise avec la langue anglaise et elle a traduit tous les livres avec le traducteur Google afin de pouvoir les lire et les comprendre.
Un dernier mot ?
Je suis très fière de tout ce que Ghislain fait. Un vrai modèle de persévérance pour tout le monde incluant ses enfants. Dans la vie, vous pouvez faire tout ce que vous voulez. Ne vous laissez pas vous faire rabaisser par les mots des autres. Ghislain avait un trouble de langage et se faisait dire par ses enseignants qu’il ne serait pas capable de surmonter ce trouble! Aujourd’hui, il a publié trois livres et quelques uns en écriture. Avec plus d’une centaine de tournages : figurations et rôles parlés. Le monde de l’art est difficile à percer, encourageons-les!
